This is my father on his last day. Based on a drawing that I did at his bedside, this is my final portrait of him that took four years for me to begin and then a year to complete.
My medium is thread-on-layered-fabric. Using scissors, I draw freely into the color and textured fields of found materials. With machine stitching, I draw, adjoin and define form. Lines of thread become my brushstrokes, both blending and emphasizing contours. My work focuses on the universal issues of age and mortality -and on seeing these transitions as a natural part of life, worthy of reflection.
